FEATURING
Airda, Souko, Shambo

A publication exploring the music, people and landscapes of Hokkaido through the Sound Bridge project. The zine brings together conversations with Shibetsu DJs Souko and Shambo, whose music and record culture are helping shape a growing local scene, alongside an in-depth conversation with sound artist Airda, who moved from Tokyo to Shiretoko in 2020.

From soul, funk and jazz to Detroit’s musical heritage, the publication looks at how music creates connections between Shibetsu, Japan, Gothenburg and Detroit. It also explores the relationship between sound and place through Airda’s recordings of wind, waves, birds, snow and the changing rhythms of the natural environment.

Moving between DJ culture, personal stories and sound art, the zine reflects on what it means to listen deeply — to a community, a landscape and to one another. At its heart is the idea that sound can create connections beyond language and geography, offering a temporary bridge between people and the world around them.
